January 2017 - Vernelle A. A. Noel participated and presented her work in Craft and Technology at the Winter School on Responsible Innovation and Social Studies of Emerging Technologies hosted by Arizona State University, and The National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure.

November 2016 - Vernelle A. A. Noel presented her work, “New Technologies in the Preservation and Development of Design in the Trinidad Carnival,” at the 21st Conference on Cultural Heritage and New Technologies (CHNT21) in Vienna, Austria. The archaeological conference was held at Vienna’s beautiful City Hall.

October 2016 - Vernelle A. A. Noel and materials science professor R. Allen Kimel won the Humanitarian Materials Initiative Research Grant from the Materials Research Institute. Their proposal is entitled, “Material Matters: A model for the design and construction of low-cost, high performance energy-efficient shelters in Burkina Faso, West Africa.”

August 2016 - Vernelle A. A. Noel presented her work, "Crafting as Inquiry into Computation: Exploring wire-bending in traditional practice and design education" at eCAADe 2016 in Oulu, Finland.

Nov. 2-3. 2015 - Vernelle A. A. Noel was an invited participant at a two-day Summit hosted by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to explore and advance the Maker Movement.

Oct. 14. 2015 - Vernelle A. A. Noel presented at TEDxPortofSpain. Her talk was entitled, "The Power of Making: Craft, Computation, and Carnival." Video not yet released.

 

Aug. 24. 2015 - Vernelle A. A. Noel was an awardee of the Prime Minister's Award for Scientific Ingenuity from NIHERST's Scientific Creative Solutions Competition.

Aug. 11. 2015 - Vernelle A. A. Noel presented her work, "The Bailey-Derek Grammar: Recording the Craft of Wire-Bending in the Trinidad Carnival" at SIGGRAPH2015 in Los Angeles, California.

Aug. 15. 2014 - Vernelle A. A. Noel was an awardee of the idea2innovation (i2i) Competition in the Manufacturing and Manufacturing Related category. Her project aimed to explore the integration of computation and digital technology to support design in the Trinidad Carnival.
